Making It Through the Holidays Healthy

The holidays are upon us, and for many that means overindulgence. Whether it’s Thanksgiving or

Christmas – or all of the get togethers for work and/or with friends in between – there are too many

opportunities for too much of a good thing. Food and drink and sweets and family. All can be great, but

there are costs.

The holiday season can also put a lot of anxiety and stress on you, and so it’s important to make sure we

are making our best effort to keep your body prepared for what’s coming. That can not only help

mitigate some of the issues with the excess food and drink, but also the stress that goes along with the

holiday season.

Taking the Proactive Approach

A chiropractic adjustment before hitting the thick of the holiday season can help in a multitude of ways.

One of the biggest benefits is a boost to your immune system. Even if you’re not traveling, many people

you’ll come into contact with have been. Having your immune system in tip top shape will give you the

best shot at avoiding illness during a time you’re probably seeing a lot of people.

Proper spinal alignment can help set you up to deal with holiday stress more effectively, as well. All of

those commitments have us on the run, and those packed schedules can turn into anxiety and stress.

Some of that can manifest as low back pain, neck pain, or even tension in the shoulders. When we tense

up over stress, we become more vulnerable to these injuries, and an adjustment can help fight those

effects.

Travel Takes Its Toll

If you are heading back and forth visiting family during the holiday season, you might be sitting for

extended periods of time in uncomfortable places. Riding in the car, sitting on planes, or waiting in

uncomfortable airport seating can definitely take their toll. Making sure your spine is properly aligned

can help prepare your body for travel.

The travel schedule can also be unforgiving, so getting your spine aligned early in the holiday season can

keep you going while you do all of these extra activities in conjunction with your normal routine. By

keeping ahead of things, travel won’t seem as daunting or stressful, and you will won’t be slowed down

during one of the busiest times of year.

Be Careful in the Cold

Cold weather has a way of slowing you down, but it can also be the cause of numerous afflictions – both

physical and mental. There are numerous studies that show depression and fatigue increase during the

winter months, and these winter blues are tough to yank yourself out of. Getting a chiropractic

adjustment helps with more than our posture.

Getting your nervous system clicking can help you feel happier and more confident, all while giving you

more energy. This is vital for those that need to keep moving, since cold can also have an effect on your

joints. There’s also an increase in the chance of injury – thanks to ice and snow. Whether it’s a slip on an

icy driveway, a sore back from shoveling snow, or a pulled muscle leaning to hang holiday lights, keeping

your spine aligned can help offset some of these concerns.
