What is a NeuroStructural Shift?

At Foundation Chiropractic, we pride ourselves on correcting the cause of your condition, rather than focusing on the removal of your secondary conditions, otherwise known as symptoms. As you certainly know, pain, discomfort, and other signs, are not in and of themselves, a problem. They are merely indications that there is an underlying problem somewhere in the body. Does it make sense to remove those indications without correcting the real issue? Of course it doesn't.

That's why at Foundation Chiropractic, we focus on something completely different than most other chiropractors. Instead of removing symptoms, we address the cause of your symptoms using a method called NeuroStructural Correction. We use state of the art, instrumentation to identify the underlying structural abnormality in your spine that is causing your specific problem.

Whether you'd like to finally address the cause of your ailments, or simply achieve optimal health through regular chiropractic adjusments, we'd like to invite you to come in for a complimentary consultation.

A consultation in our office is simply a casual conversation where we learn a little about you, and you learn a little about us.  We understand that we are not the right office for every person, so doesn’t it make sense to discover that before you begin a relationship with our practice?  We believe so, and hopefully so do you.

Browse our site to learn more about our practice and see if our unique focus might be the solution to your health challenges. Or simply give our staff a call and we'll be happy to speak with you.

What are my treatment options?

There are a wide variety of treatment options offered by both medical and alternative medicine practitioners. Most doctors are focused on pain and symptom relief (secondary conditions), and they do an excellent job. People often start with medication or herbal/homeopathic remedies which can shut-off your body's pain receptors.

If that doesn't work, then courses of physical therapy may be used to strengthen muscular weakness, address spasm, or increase mobility. Injection programs to calm the site of pain come in next.

When those don't work, more invasive procedures like surgery start to fall into the picture. All of these treatment programs are effective in the appropriate time and place and have different goals.

Our goal at Foundation Chiropractic is to restore the NeuroStructural integrity of your spine. Dr. Sheridan has built excellent relationships with the best health care providers throughout the community. If during the consultation she finds that Foundation Chiropractic is not right for you, we will make sure to find the best practitioner to help resolve your specific condition.

What are Secondary Conditions?

Ever had that engine light suddenly illuminate in your car? Is that light the actual problem, or is the light just an indication that there is an underlying issue with the car? Obviously that light is to let you know that there is a problem with the car. In this case, the engine light in the car is a "symptom" due to the underlying condition. Like your car, our bodies also have these warning lights, or "symptoms" that tell us that there is an underlying condition, something more serious, in our bodies.

In structural chiropractic, we call these symptoms, "Secondary Conditions", because that is exactly what they are. They are secondary to an underlying condition which is resulting in these secondary conditions. This underlying condition, a NeuroStructural Shift, can result in many secondary conditions, some of which include:

  • Neck and back pain

  • Sciatica and hip pain

  • Numbness and tingling

  • Muscular spasm/tension

  • Headaches/migranes

  • Pinched nerve

  • Herniated disc

  • Canal Stenosis

Neck and back pain

  • Degenerative disc disease

  • Degenerative joint desease

  • Less range of motion

  • Poor posture

  • Muscular imbalance

  • Dizziness or vertigo

  • Carpal tunnel

  • Shoulder pain

What Do I Need to Know Before My Exam?

Following a complimentary consultation, you will be given the opportunity to undergo a comprehensive NeuroStructural corrective chiropractic examination. Unlike some other chiropractic offices where the exam is done in 15 minutes by someone other than the doctor, this exam will be thoroughly performed by Dr. Sheridan to identify the nature of your structural shift.

***Please be prepared to dress appropriately for the examination. It is suggeted that you have athletic/gym shorts available, and women should also come with a sports bra for accurate NeuroStructural assessment.

After the examination, if a NeuroStructural shift has been confirmed, a follow up conference to review the results will be scheduled. Dr. Sheridan will discuss your specific care options and deliver your first chiropractic correction.

Schedule Your Complimentary Consultation

At Foundation Chiropractic, a consultation only means one thing: a conversation. When you schedule your consultation with us, you'll have the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Sheridan, not to have an exam, and not to be given a sales pitch, but for two distinct reasons:

  1. We want to get to know you and understand your life situation

  2. You will get to know us, and how we may be able to assist you in achieving optimum health

To be very clear, there is NO CHARGE for our consultation. We don't feel right charging for a conversation. During your consultation, we will provide you with an overview of chiropractic, and then explain how our focus - NeuroStructural Correction - is quite different from traditional chiropractic that you are probably accustomed to hearing about. But the most important aspect of the consultation is for us to determine if what we offer, can be the solution that you've been searching for.

At the conclusion of your consultation with Dr. Sheridan, you have the option of getting started that day if you so choose, or we can schedule you for a future date. At this time we will get your full patient history, followed by a Foundation NeuroStructural Chiropractic examination.
